Life lessons from the mountain
The mountains have a way of drawing you in, entrancing you with their beauty, and demanding your respect.
They provide a place to experiment with something new, to practice fundamental life skills in a rich, demanding environment.
To grow creativity and confidence in trying things we see as outside the box. They push us to achieve goals we never thought possible.
In my years falling down mountains, I’ve discovered that the same principles that help us make our first turns, or jump off a cliff and ride away grinning, can be applied to both life and business to cultivate success and happiness.
For almost two decades, I’ve pushed my coaching skills to their limits.
I’ve achieved the highest level of certification in both Snowboarding and Mountain Biking, and become an active member of the elite Technical Teams in both associations—something accomplished by only two other people in history.
Along the way, while helping define the standards of coaching in both industries, I’ve also spent over a decade working with Extremely Canadian as a Ski and Snowboard big mountain guide.

CASI Level 4 Snowboard Instructor and National Technical Team
CASI Level 4 is the highest certification for snowboard instructors in Canada, requiring:
- Expert ability to teach advanced students and train instructors
- Mastery of CASI methodologies
- Proficiency in 60-minute advanced skill development and instructor training sessions
- Expert-level riding on all terrain, including black and double-black runs, terrain park and off-piste
Level 4 typically requires years of preparation and a multi-year development plan.
National Technical Team
The NTT represents CASI’s technical expertise and contributes to the association’s development:
- Provides input on teaching methodologies, course standards, and training programs
- Assists in evaluator training, certification courses, and member events
- Produces technical articles and videos for member communications
- Represents CASI nationally and internationally
GSMBC Level 4 Mountain Bike Coach and Global Education Team
The GSMBC Level 4 coaching certification is the highest level of certification offered by the Global Syndicate of Mountain Bike Coaches.
